So Where Have I Been?

Journal Entry: Mon Jul 21, 2008, 10:43 PM
So, Um, It Has Been a While

I'm sorry to have been gone so long, mainly because I really enjoy doing silly stuff. I will not bore everyone with all the reasons why I have not had time for so-called art lately, other than to say that real life has to come first.

There are art reasons for the delay that might be worth pointing out. I am still trying to learn how to do something more cartoony, which you can see in "Men In, Women Out". I still need to develop a style that is simple but nice to look at and doesn't take a ridiculous amount of time to do. I like taking the time to do more artsy pieces but on the other hand sometimes I want to tell a story and don't have the time to do all the shading and so on that it would take to do a full-blown comic book style.

I am still trying to learn how to ink digitally. I'm not happy with the results I got from Adobe Illustrator...but that's more likely operator error than anything to do with the software. Still it took a very long time to get results that I really don't like. Sigh...

Anyway, now that this monkey is off my back...um, I mean now that "Men In, Women Out" is done...I will probably turn my attention back to writing for a while. I will probably post a few things here later to see what y'all think.

Thanks for all the views...and more importantly, thanks for your patience.

Poll Dancing

Journal Entry: Sat Oct 13, 2007, 10:56 PM
40,000 hits poll created

Hi All!

To my utter astonishment, I've passed 40,000 hits. Thank you, everyone, for continuing to view my silly stuff. I'm constantly amazed by your support and very thankful for it.

I decided to try a 3-month subscription and had to play with my new toys, so there is a poll for you to answer if you like. The poll lets you tell me what you'd like to see for a 40k image -- I'm really curious to see what you folks prefer. I have some guesses based on what images are more popular but this is your chance to tell me directly what I should do....um...what I should draw, that is!

I actually have several ideas that I've sketched out already, so I'll probably continue developing those until I see what direction the polling goes.

Thanks again!

New sketch in scraps

Journal Entry: Wed Aug 15, 2007, 12:21 PM
Hi all,

Just a quick note to let you know that a) I survived vacation (2900 miles in a car with two pre-teen boys!) and b) that I posted a sketchy sketch in my Scraps area.

Hope to have more art soon. I'm also contemplating posting some of my writing here; I'll have to see what of my stuff would pass dA's rules :).

Hope all is well for you all!

Are there bits coming out of my ears?

Journal Entry: Wed Jun 6, 2007, 9:41 AM
Hi! Just a quick note to make excuses--er, explain why I haven't posted anything lately. I've mentioned before that I'm a freelance programmer and currently I have two customers expecting nearly full time from me. Add to that family stuff and you'd think I'd be busy enough for anyone, right?

Silly you!

Obviously I'm not busy enough, so I am at a conference in Orlando, learning all about the new development tools and platforms coming out in the coming year from Microsoft (please, no anti-MS comments. Whatever your opinion may be, I make a very nice living by using their products, thank you very much.). It's a Geek-fest of immense proportions -- thousands of geeks and geekettes descending on the unsuspecting home of the Mouse...only to spend hour after hour in presentations!

At least they try to make things fun. Tomorrow they are renting out Universal Studio's Islands of Adventure. Tens of thousands of geeks will take over the park, drink free booze, and ride rides. This was a major source of entertainment for me last time I was at this event, so I'm looking forward to it!

So, instead of trying to make one or the other of my customers happy I am hiding in Florida. My master plan seems to be working as they are now both mad at me, instead of just one. At least now they can't say I'm favoring one over the other.

All of this, of course, leaves very little time for art work. I have a Tablet PC, so the theory is that I can do some drawing while I'm here. The reality is that I've only managed to do some very sketchy sketches. All of my ideas involve sequences right now so who knows how long it will take me to finish? I may do something I've never done before and post some sketches just for fun....though I'm not sure the world is ready to see my sketches!

Anyway, there's my excuse. Hopefully I can get some stuff done during downtime...at the very least I ought to get some interesting looks if people see what I'm sketching......

I reached 20,000 hits over the weekend! Thanks everyone for visiting my little home away from home here at deviantART! I'm amazed every time I look at the stats. Your support keeps me going...which may not be a good thing, depending on your point of view (see the latest image in the gallery).

This, BTW, was my first kitty and drawn without a reference, other than a picture of a serval cat. I intended to make her a serval but simply ran out of time to do spots. I actually sketched her over a week ago but time has been very limited lately. I'll have to do more kitties to get some practice in!

I have about four half-completed projects that I want to do. I'm also thinking about posting some stories here. I'm a shameless attention slut. :D

Thanks again for your patience and kind comments!
